Why I Won’t Be Looking For Mistletoe This Christmas

Why I Won’t Be Looking For Mistletoe This Christmas

The holidays and singleness go together like fish and cheese. Not overly offensive at a glance, but when you get down to it, it just falls a bit short of a decent Christmas dinner. If you’re home with your family for Christmas there are the inevitable questions to tackle from well meaning, but seriously frustrating distant relations.

What happened to Mr. X who you were dating last year, Almaz? Oh well, that’s a shame you can’t seem to hold down a man for more than 3 weeks. Oh yes, that’s very modern of you to be so upbeat about the fact that you’re still not married and almost 26. Thank God you’re a bright girl and can make your own living. That never would have happened in my day. I was married at 20, you know. 30 will be kicking on your door before you know it, love. Tick, tock, better get a move on.

3 Life Lessons I Learned In Japan

3 Life Lessons I Learned In Japan

Japan is a country that is difficult to describe, but easy to feel. At the risk of sounding like the worst kind of millennial cliché; it’s an absolute vibe. It’s a land where trains run like clockwork, where everything you can ever imagine can be purchased from a vending machine, and where bathing naked with total strangers is a regular Saturday night out. Japan is wild.

Top 10 Things to Do in Mexico

Top 10 Things to Do in Mexico

I sort of ended up in Mexico by mistake. I was 19 years-old, and after taking a gap year and working for 12 full months in a retail store, I had exactly $3000 stashed away in my children’s bank account. Of course it seems like a relatively small amount now, but back then it was more money than I had ever dreamed of having and I vividly recall feeling like a billionaire, dripping in gold and hungry to burn some cash. Instead of doing the sensible thing and starting university with some cash in the bank, I quit my job, cashed in my savings and joined my sister on an epic trip around North America.

Let’s Talk About Stress, Baby

Let’s Talk About Stress, Baby

Stress. It’s a little tiny word that causes some big huge problems. Chest pains, sweating, illness, sleepless nights, anxiety. Sound familiar? Of course it sounds familiar, because at some stage in your life, you have experienced extreme stress. And you’re not alone.

A recent survey found that 77 percent of adults admit to experiencing physical effects of stress regularly. 73 percent of adults say they often struggle with the psychological effects of stress. 48 percent of adults say they are more stressed than they were five years ago. No matter how you package it up, stress is nobody’s mate.

How to Holiday in Dubai on a Budget

How to Holiday in Dubai on a Budget

I stood at my seventh floor viewpoint, my hands pressed softly against the glass of the hotel room window, my eyes wide and taking in everything in front of me. Below on the street men wearing white robes drove past in glimmering cars worth more than my family home. In the distance beautiful women in flowing black robes sashayed past gracefully, Gucci pumps glistening in the morning light and Louis Vuitton bags slung neatly over robed shoulders.

The Heartbreak Hotel: Dumped, But Never Defeated

The Heartbreak Hotel: Dumped, But Never Defeated

It came like an earthquake. Nothing for a very long time. Stillness and calm. Chirping birds and mellow crickets. Warm breezes and soft waves. Glowing sunsets and warm hugs. And then all at once, a sudden jolt, violent and unexpected. Entirely undetectable and overwhelmingly unsettling.

He said he’d been feeling this way deep down for a while, but had only just realised I wasn’t the one for him. Tears rolled down my cheeks as my sweaty thighs stuck to the seat of the stuffy car. He was sorry – I could see it in his eyes – but he also gave off an air of quiet relief.

The Good List: 4 Skincare Products That Will Change Your Life (Like, Actually)

I know, I know, you’ve heard it all before. I would forgive you for reading the title of this post and being tempted to tune out before you even started reading. Because let’s be real, there are way too many bloggers and influencers out there, claiming that XYZ product has changed their life. And of course #spon #ad has absolutely ‘nothing’ to do with their sudden enthusiasm for some obscure $47 soap you’ve never heard of. Yeah, right.
